The excellent Jazz in Britain label continues to unearth nuggets from UK jazz history - May of this year saw the release of an album collecting for the first time ever, the complete recording sessions for the Spotlite vinyl album ‘Fingers Remember Mingus’ expanded with bonus tracks. The original album sessions, and the extra tracks, were all recorded between 1979 and 1983. Featured music on the show is by Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker and is interpreted by a great band put together by bassist Dave Green. In addition there’s a focus on Daniel Carter with his latest release and some older material with Patrick Golden and Jim Clouse. The show also includes some great new releases and a fascinating solo piece by Camila Nebbia.

Jazz has been around long enough to allow for a massive library of ground breaking legacy music to build up. Current musicians often look back at that legacy, sometimes they use it, sometimes they build upon it and add a current perspective. In this way jazz is allowed to grow and develop whilst remaining true to the work of the innovators who went before. Several of this weeks pieces very much capture the spirit of past meets present, but also look to the future.  Featuring music from: Alex Sipiagin, Andrew Wilcox, Daniel Carter, Ayumi Ishito, Eric Plaks, Zach Swanson, Jon Pannikar, Eyal Vilner Big Band, GoGo Penguin, Gonçalo Marques Quartet, Gregg Skaff, Jon De Lucia, Kevin Sun, Lee McKinney, Markus Howell, Oded Tzur, Pat Thomas and Bleyschool, Song Yi Jeon, Steve Turre, Tone Forest, Tyler Cooney & Steve Newcomb, and, Yosef Gutman-Levitt
