World of Jazz 653

Recorded on December 22nd and 23rd 1965 - Live at the Plugged Nickel in Chicago - the Miles Davis Quintet with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams, saw the band turning their standard repertoire on its head with a fresh approach to interpreting and playing the music. Another massive step in Miles' career, these recordings are universally regarded as some of the most important in the history of jazz. This new way of playing was instigated by the band without Miles’ prior knowledge, however the leader soon adapted to and embraced the change. I’ve selected key tracks from the box set of recordings which were released in 1995.
