Jazz has been around long enough to allow for a massive library of ground breaking legacy music to build up. Current musicians often look back at that legacy, sometimes they use it, sometimes they build upon it and add a current perspective. In this way jazz is allowed to grow and develop whilst remaining true to the work of the innovators who went before.
