On this show we have a variety of new releases including latin jazz, classical crossover, and, live cuts. In addition a re-release of a classic album from Keith Jarrett and a dip in the archive for music from John Abercrombie and Julius Hemphill. I also continue my deep dive into the recent re-releases of Ivo Perelman’s Leo Records catalogue. The variety on display in this weeks selection is marked. It just happens that way sometimes. What I am pleased about is that these artists do not pay heed to what the so-called “music experts/pundits” tell us we should be listening to. Following trends has never been a particularly fruitful career move. That’s why I loath the idea of tribute bands. Anyhow, enough grumbling from me, sit back, relax and listen to some excellent sounds. Featured artists are :

This show includes many new releases and lots of those are Self Released demonstrating the healthy state of independent music production in the industry. There is some classic jazz meets rock from over 20 years ago plus three outstanding live albums from Resonance Records for Record Store Day 2025. In addition with the planned release of a massive collection of the work of Ivo Perelman on Leo Records I begin a month long exploration of his work.

The blues is at the heart of rock ‘n’ roll, one might argue the great-grandfather of the whole thing. Since rock arrived in its nascent form protean changes have led to multiple genres. But if you listen carefully somewhere in there the blues roots are still evident. This week a few examples of this. This time around a fascinating selection of recent releases including a sublime performance from the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald from a previously unreleased live recording. There are no genre rules in use in these collections of music. A lot of the playlists emerge organically from new submissions or my vain attempt to catalogue my ridiculously large music archive. Rock or punk, or variations thereof seem to dominate this time but there are occasional side journeys into less familiar musical areas. The UK, States, Canada and Australia are in play.

Robert Forster and Grant McLennan feature heavily on this edition. I continue to explore the Go Betweens Box Set #3 as well as a first look at the new release of the collected works of Grant’s other venture, with The Church's Steve Kilbey, Jack Frost. In addition, amongst other wonderful things, a look back at a classic album from Ut, a new EP from Blokeacola, and a new album from Bury’s greatest export Adventures of Salvador (yes they are better than Black Pudding!!)
