The variety on display in this weeks selection is marked. It just happens that way sometimes. What I am pleased about is that these artists do not pay heed to what the so-called “music experts/pundits” tell us we should be listening to. Following trends has never been a particularly fruitful career move. That’s why I loath the idea of tribute bands. Anyhow, enough grumbling from me, sit back, relax and listen to some excellent sounds. Featured artists are :
Junk Props, Zion Train, Push Puppets, Pyres, stef.in, Evidence Of A Struggle, Severed Heads, The Go-Betweens, 2 Lost Souls, The Dave Graney Show, Smoked Salmon, Kim Salmon & Masami Kawaguchi, Rubi Ate The Fig, Robert Forster, Moff Skellington, Neural Dance, Ecce Shnak, Pink Turns Blue, Galan Trio + Zacharias Tarpagkos, and, Gentles.

The blues is at the heart of rock ‘n’ roll, one might argue the great-grandfather of the whole thing. Since rock arrived in its nascent form protean changes have led to multiple genres. But if you listen carefully somewhere in there the blues roots are still evident. This week a few examples of this. Featuring music from Smoked Salmon, THE NECTARINE NO.9 , Occult Character, The Bolshoi Brothers, Backxwash, Skip James, Loscil, Severed Heads, Gijs Levelt, Claude9, The Go-Betweens, 2 Lost Souls, The Dave Graney Show, The Fauves, Dream Cycle Inc., Jeff Gburek, Kris Gruda, Gillsaw, Emily Allison and Boris Schmidt, and, Molara

New music from TFS is always a good way to start a show. After that a mixed bag of old and new, a small celebration of the work of Clare Moore away from Dave Graney and to close live versions of two of my favourite tracks of all time. Full playlist and notes are at my Substack

There are no genre rules in use in these collections of music. A lot of the playlists emerge organically from new submissions or my vain attempt to catalogue my ridiculously large music archive. Rock or punk, or variations thereof seem to dominate this time but there are occasional side journeys into less familiar musical areas. The UK, States, Canada and Australia are in play.
